Research

Resident scholarship is encouraged throughout training, with faculty support for clinical research, quality improvement, case-based projects, and conference presentations. The program is designed to provide meaningful academic opportunities while allowing residents to tailor their level of research involvement to their individual interests and career goals.

All residents participate in scholarly activity and present at least twice each year: Once in the fall at the Memphis Radiological Society Symposium and once in the spring at the Baptist Memorial Medical Education Scholarly Symposium. These presentations provide structured experience in academic communication and help residents develop habits of inquiry, review, and professional engagement.

For residents who want greater involvement, there are ample opportunities to work with faculty on additional projects and to submit work to regional and national meetings. Funding is available to support approved presentations, including travel, accommodations, and registration fees. This model reflects the approach used by many leading integrated IR programs, where research is supported, faculty mentorship is accessible, and scholarly activity is tailored to the interests of the individual resident.
